Q: How do I become a member of St. James?
A: Simply call the church office; we'll walk you through the simple process.

Q: What does it mean to be a member of St. James?
A: It means that your baptism is recorded in the church records, you attend services and take communion regularly and you are a giver of record.


Stewardship


Q: What does it mean to pledge?
A: It means that you financially support your church so that it may continue to provide consistent services and programs.

Q: Are there ways to give to the church other than financially?
A: Yes. In addition to your financial commitment to the church, your time and talents are as great gifts as well. Volunteerism must exist for a church to function well.

Q: How do I make my pledge to the church?
A: Simply request a pledge card and return it to the church office.

Q: Can I fulfill my pledge by donating stock?
A: Of course. Please call the church accountant for details.


Music


Q: How would I go about joining the choir at St. James?
A: Simply call Steve Townsend at the church office and he will talk with about the choir, their responsibilities and the commitment required from choristers.

Q: I've heard about your Music Series. How do I get tickets?
A: Series tickets for concerts are available in the fall each year. A quick call to Steve Townsend at the church office will confirm your mailing address for concert announcements.

Q: Where are Evensong Services held?
A: The Bishop's School is located close by St. James at 7607 La Jolla Blvd. Evensong Services are held in St. Mary's Chapel once a month during the academic year.


Communications


Q: What are the deadlines for church publications?
A: The deadline for Sunday bulletin announcements is Tuesday by the end of the day. The deadline for The Chimes is the 15th of the month for the edition published on the 1st and the 1st for the edition published on the 15th.

Q: How much should I write?
A: Write just enough to get your message or facts across. Most readers do not want to wade through large blocks of text. Space is always an issue when there are many messages to relay.

Q: How do all those mistakes happen?
A: Perfection is always the goal, but is often difficult to achieve. Information for publications are often submitted or changed at the last minute despite everyone's best efforts.


General Information


Q: How do I update my personal information such as mailing address in the church records?
A: Either call the church office or go the UPDATE page under the MEMBERSHIP section of this website.

Q: What if the information on my pledge statement is incorrect?
A: First make sure that you are using your envelopes or a check to pay your pledge. If you place cash into the collection plate at a service it is not possible for the accounting staff to apply your pledge correctly. You can always call the church accounting office with questions.

Q: When are pledge statements mailed?
A: Statements are mailed quarterly as well as at year end.
